Lots of debate about the first pass of the game. I have watched the replay at
least 15 times, and I cannot see any substantial "slow down" or "underthrow". If there are other views out there that show Gunner with more than a half yard lead vertically, please send them to me. As soon as he comes into the screen, Gunners front foot is just past the 36, and the defenders is just past the 35. He does have the inside track by about a yard. Tanner, imo, throws a great ball to where his receiver has a chance to catch it, and there is no chance at a pick. If tanner throws about a yard or 2 more to his left, he probably has a chance to throw Gunner open. I guess you could classify the throw as slightly "behind" Gunner. He turns to catch the ball, and that gives the defender the chance to make up the 1 yard and hit his arm. Looking back, it was probably just a good defensive play more than a drop or a bad pass, but I still think the receiver needs to find a way to catch it. If it was truly underthrown, it probably would have been a PI. Anyone who thinks there is a bad throw has way too high of expectations for a pass 50 yards down the field. The QB throws into a Window where the receiver can catch it, and the defenders cannot, and thats what Tanner did.

I feel there have been a few deep throws where the WR has slowed down when they should have kept running at the same (SouthernBlueBlood, Sep 24, 2018 at 4:42am)
