BYU's quiet old fans have an intensity you wouldn't understand.
BYUs west side legacy donors are old and quiet but they paid for a stadium and their work helped earn a national championship. Most of these doners were not wealthy.
In contrast the 2002 Olympics gave Rice Eccles Stadium to Utah Football. All Utah students are forced to buy football tickets. The Pac 12 gives Utah more TV money than it earns. The subsidies have worked. Utah football is currently better than BYU.
Utah Football is still saving for a deposit for its own stadium, If history is an indication then future upgrades will be paid for by subsidies from the State.
LaVell, BYU Football and Fans earned and paid for LaVell Edwards Stadium. BYU Football is one of the few profitable football teams.
Yes it feels different.
