I don’t think a playoff — implemented correctly — would change that much.

Teams would be playing for auto-bids and at-large spots like they do today, but they’d also be jockeying for home field advantage (which is realistically the only way you’d do the first round or two of a playoff).

Bowls don’t make the college football season great. If the NFL had a shorter season, it would be just as compelling.
