maybe an 8 team regular season tournament would not reduce it, but a 16 team

or 12 team playoff or bigger would definitely reduce the excitement of the regular season.

Jockeying for home-field advantage is not that exciting.

Elimination games are what are most exciting, and that is why college football has best regular season because of its cutthroat regular season. Lose once and you might be out. Lose twice and almost certainly out.
