and/or have kids makes them a bit less motivated about winning football games, compared to most other college football players. Ironically, because they are more mature and presumably maybe have a more long-term perspective than most D1 athletes, maybe they get less excited about winning and are less disappointed about losing.
I know that I was more intense about sports and about winning & losing when I was younger, when it seemed like the biggest priority out there. As I've gotten older, gone on a mission, gotten married, had kids, and raised kids, my priorities have changed; different things are more important to me now than they used to be. Even in my job and career, I recognize that I am not as intense about "succeeding" as I once was.
I assume it is the same for college football players. This is probably a good thing for them and their families, and for society as a whole, but maybe not such a good thing for BYU football.
