It is more fundamental than that. The entire game of basketball has changed
In ways that do not benefit BYU in terms of our historical recruiting pool. Eric Mika would have been a mid to late first round pick in 2007.

But the days of big slow post guys and inside out basketball are over. Now it is about athleticism and shooting on offense at every position. On defense it is about athleticism and length to guard the perimeter and slow down the dribble drive.

We used to succeed like the old Houston Rockets playing inside out. That brand of basketball is dead. It can’t keep up with the statistically driven efficiency focused offenses of today. And we have not been able to recruit guys who can defend or play that kind of ball either.
