So I got a DNA test...
And it showed basically what I thought it would show which is Northern European heritage. But it contained either a serious mistake or else maybe they don’t define some of the nationalities individually although that doesn’t make any sense to me.

For instance my paternal grandmother was full blooded Danish, both of her parents immigrated from Denmark (surname of Peterson changed from Pedersen is my understanding) but my genetic breakdown doesn’t show any Danish at all, none. But based on having a grandmother that was full blooded Dane I should show at minimum 25% Danish.

I thought maybe it was just lumped in as Scandinavian but it doesn’t make an overall Scandinavian percentage at all and in fact shows specifically that I have Swedish and Norwegian dna. Not only that but even if you add my percentages of Swedish and Norwegian together it doesn’t even come up to the minimum of 25% I thought would be Danish. In fact it only totals 18% between those two and I know I have Scandinavian ancestry through my mother whose maiden name was Folkman and her ancestors also emigrated from Denmark.

In short I assumed I had mixed Scandinavian ancestry, among other things, but assumed they would total far more than 18% considering I have ancestors on both sides that immigrated from Denmark.

The majority of my dna shows England/Wales/northwestern Europe 41% and Scottish/Irish 28%. Smaller percentages of Scandinavian 18%, and Germanic Europe 13%.

Has anyone else done one of these, mine was through Ancestry, and had similar results they think might not be accurate based on knowing their ancestry from their genealogy?
