This happens every week in the private sector. A good friend of mine was laid off 2 weeks before Christmas. Totally
sucks.
It is noteworthy when government employees go without paychecks because they are essentially unfireable. "Public service" means a good paying job for life with benefits and a pension, no matter how they perform.
