and it was among the wealthiest cities in Europe from the 12th to 15th Centuries. The city is great to just walk around and enjoy. The food is great too. If you like art the Groeningemuseum has the art of the "Flemish Primitives". Despite the name they had much more detailed and sophisticated paintings then Italy had at the time. I'd just check Tripadvisor and hit the main sites listed. I don't have much insider info beyond that
