Emery averaged 16 ppg as a freshman, that is more than many recruits will do in their whole career. There was no way to know that Emery would have so many personal issues when he was signed.

The main reasons the program is struggling is:

Rose isn't coaching defense well without Schroyer.
Rose is signing tons of players that are not talented and not highly recruited: kajon brown, Colby Leifson, Kolby Lee, Luke Worthington, Mckay Cannon, and multiple kids in this years class who I won't name
Players that were decent recruits are regressing badly: Seljaas, Nixon, and Emery.
Players leaving early because of missions, and transfer years: Mika/Bryant.
