I agree and I think he has a chance to be good....
I've just been trying to explain why he is a PWO and not a scholarship guy. There are other reasons kids get offered PWO's besides lacking a measurable, for instance the school has a scholarship shortage which is something BYU has this year. Or else they just think they can get them with a PWO for whatever reason so they do it. BYU also does this quite a bit with local and/or LDS kids.

And a kid deciding to take a PWO over a scholarship offer elsewhere also has a lot of factors. I think with BYU specifically there is a great desire by some parents, and even the kid himself, to both attend BYU and be a BYU athlete. It is a lifelong dream for both the kid and his parents so they value that more than an actual scholarship to play elsewhere. Also because BYU is so inexpensive for LDS kids to attend a kid might actually save money taking a BYU PWO instead of a scholarship to some FCS schools.

One of the differences between FCS (like Weber or SUU) and FBS schools is that they can give partial scholarships because they have less scholarships to give. So a kid can get an offer for 50% or 25% or whatever and when they calculate what they will still have to pay out of pocket it will be close to the same, or sometimes even more, than it would cost them to go to BYU on a PWO. That isn't the case if the FCS gives a kid a full ride, obviously then the family isn't paying anything, but in some situations it is cheaper to take the PWO.

So BYU in particular offers these to kids that might really be scholarship worthy because they know they can get them based off of them being a BYU family or LDS and so tuition is cheap.

In fact I'm predicting Braeden Wissler picks BYU and their PWO when he does his Hat Reveal on channel 2 this Sunday night for those reasons. He has actual scholarship offers to quite a few FCS schools plus PWO's to BYU, UU, WSU, and Stanford. Most people do not really know the difference between a fullride or PWO offer so most watching will only see that he has all of those hats in front of him and picks one of them. I just can't imagine he would get on TV and pick up an SUU hat over a BYU, Stanford, or UU hat. No one would get why he'd do that.

And of his PWO's BYU makes the most sense. Cheapest to attend plus best chance to maybe get some playing time early and then maybe get a scholarship. I don't have any inside info on that, it is just my guess, but I'll be very surprised if he doesn't do that. Maybe UU's pwo since it is instate and still reasonably inexpensive to attend but I can't imagine the family will want to spend $40,000-$80,000 per year to send him to Stanford or WSU on a PWO.
