He's and engineer at the Hanford nuclear site in Washington, so I figured he would have some good insights on the matter. He basically said there are three considerations when it comes to energy: cost, efficiency, and impact on the environment and nuclear wins hands down on every one. A single gram of nuclear fuel generates more energy than thousands of gallons of fossil fuels, and we all know how inefficient wind and solar are. As far as impact on the environment, nuclear is to energy what airplanes are to travel. Accidents are rare but can be significant and get a lot of press. Overall though the impact is less than all other types of energy.
