D.R. has VERY heavy accents, they use a ton of slang, and they talk ridiculously fast.

I never knew what to make of the "dont' eat street food". My mission in South America was in an area where the water was bad, but we had street food all the time and it was delicious. Boil the water, and beware the unboiled ice cubes. Guess know your body and know the risks and decide accordingly.
