For the fourth time, YES. If that player throws the ball downward through the
hoop - even from 5 feet away - that would be a dunk, and it would count in the dunk contest. In fact, that would be pretty spectacular, and would probably get a really good score.

Blake Griffin has done several dunks like this in real game situations, as someone posted below.

To recap: The key is throwing the ball *downward* through the hoop. There is *NO* requirement to touch the rim.
