I get that these posts usually imply the smaller pool for BYU than anyone else. But it's never as small as fans think. Mostly because fans obviously don't know how to look for a coach like an AD might, and because fans are always looking for so much "proof" in a coach. Reality is that loads of proof in experience isn't always the answer and it's not so simple for everyone to find that. That goes for any school outside of the elites who can hire anyone. It's perfectly fine to find coaches who haven't been head coaches before. Schools do it all the time because not everyone can already be one.
Everyone is all about Jensen but he's never been a college head coach at any level. He doesn't have slam dunk written all over him. And it doesn't make him a bad candidate.
I guarantee there will always be enough candidates who can work just fine. They just might not have the immediate resume fans want. Which is silly being BYU fans.
And while new coaches need a leash, they do need some time to get programs going and get a feel for how to do things at BYU... Because it's different, and it's hard.
