Some of the most stunning views in the Alps. Lago di Braies would be another one. Merano, Bressanone and Bolzano, Italy are all wonderful towns. I usually stay in the Villnoss or Ortisei area.

Obertsdorf, Germany is a beautiful area with a lot of fun summer activities.

Definitely right on the beaten path, but I would go up the Zugspitze. It's right there in Garmisch.

Sort of off the beaten path (sort of) is Mittenwald. A charming little village not unlike Oberammergau, and just down the road from Garmisch.

A town which I think is underrated, and is typically not overrun is Ulm, Germany. Most people head to Munich instead.
