I’m generally not in favor of people purposely taking govt benefits when they
can afford to support themselves without the government’s help. However, the one possible exception I would make is healthcare.

We were talking to some family members who have a kid with diabetes. They qualify for Medicaid now, but the dad is going to be up for a promotion soon at work. They were telling us that they were considering whether or not he would accept a raise if it resulted in them no longer qualified for Medicaid, because then they would most likely end up more broke than they are now.

There is something really wrong with this country’s healthcare system if this is what we have come to.
