Did I say anywhere that it's not obviously preferred your starter is in fact participating? No. That's a given so I shouldn't have to spell it out, and you shouldn't try to pretend I suggested otherwise.

While he might not be getting better in every way that he can, he can do more in the time later on to make up for it than he would have lost overall. Hence not hurting him if he comes out on top in the end. Maybe not as far along as he could, but we also can't say otherwise either. We'd never know. What we do know, or some of us at least (since CB struggles with this every year) is the purpose of spring ball, and it can be argued that him working on the mental game right now is just as important.

Don't exaggerate the purpose and importance of spring ball. If you can argue that there's no way for him to later make up what he's missing and then some, let's hear it.

Summer work, leadership, and fall camps is far far far more important than getting a few extra spring reps. We'd like to hear the evidence against that if there is any. "We'll see how much it hurts him?" How will we see? What will you use as a comparison? It's going to be hard to argue come end of August that Spring camp reps would have done this or that for him. How would we know?

It's not ideal, but it's far more important to focus on the areas from now until the Utah game where he can significantly improve instead of trying to figure out how much this is actually "hurting" him overall in the long run. Spring camp as an established starter who has already been in the program? Meh.
