They're way overloaded with call volume.
It's frustrating on things like this, but they don't have enough resources to handle their call volume, and are only able to respond to the highest priority calls (domestic violence, assaults, suicidal subjects, etc.) - they literally have so many of those they rarely can respond to lower level calls. Even on some of the more serious calls or ones they can respond to, the delay can be upwards of several hours for officers to arrive. They need a lot more manpower to be able to handle the volume that they are currently getting. It's crazy how busy that jurisdiction is.

Had a friend whose parked car got hit on the street in front of their house and the perp left the scene. They had it partially on video, with a decent shot of the vehicle color, make, and model, but no plate or identification on the car. Same deal, didn't rise to high enough priority for SLCPD to respond and the only thing they could do was an online self report.

Hopefully the city boosts the budget for more officers and a salary bump for retention. SLCPD really needs it to appropriately handle the amount of calls they are getting.
