and I hear similar things from my parents and aunts and uncles, but if they don’t have any ill will toward them it might be “racist” based on today’s definitions but it doesn’t mean they are causing any harm, or trying to cause any harm or division.

I sometimes say “oriental” instead of Asian because that was what everyone said as I was growing up and it is just ingrained. I get that the PC description is now Asian and I try to remember and use it but sometimes I’ll say “Oriental”. I’m not trying to demean anyone, offend anyone, or in any manner mock or belittle anyone, so while some may cringe when it happens I think most get that it isn’t with any ill intent.

In fact most Asians don’t care all that much in my experience, like everyone else most people don’t focus all that much on such things unless someone really is trying to be offensive.
