Most of their houses would be called ‘multi-family’ here in the US. Zoning laws forcing single family homes with a certain lot size are neither a reflection of the ‘free market’ nor environmentally conscious.
All these baby boomers are just guaranteeing that most of their children will not be able to afford to live by them.
Nowhere else in the world do most people live on 1/4-1/2 acre lots. Boomers like to point at infrastructure issues to justify their NIMBYism but in the long run it takes more infrastructure to support the sprawl. We’re repeating all of California’s short-sided decisions.
One of Trump’s best reforms was increasing the size of the standard deduction to ween the country off of the mortgage tax subsidy. If we could just figure out healthcare & entitlement reform the next generation would be much better off.
