Well here is my data:
Of course I never said the US won their last game, despite having already qualified in 1st place, to help Mexico. What they did do is the following: matter of factly employed what Americans typically do, i.e. strive to win regardless. As a British soccer analyst said in a U.K. radio interview yesterday in response to a question about the controversy over the USWNT score and celebrations, it's no big deal because the Americans are "born winners". And what the USMNT did NOT do is hold back to spite their rival. National character.
So next time a facetious reference is made regarding the USMNT failure by a Mexico fan, however TIC it may be, I will be there with a certainly TIC reminder about Mexico's ignored chance to be magnanimous and reciprocate. And to counter all those negative stereotypes that naturally arise as a result of urin bombs, thrown batteries, homophobic goal kick shouts and worse.
