The team was competitive in every game and John Beck was playing on the highest level of any QB in the Bronco era. The linebackers were also as good or better than any of Bronco's teams. That was also a very solid and experienced offensive line.
The weakness of that team was the lack of an elite playmaker at wide receiver, but because of Beck's level of play that was totally fine. It was the sandwich year between Todd Watkins and Austin Collie.
If BYU had played an elite team, the secondary probably gets exploited. Justin Robinson was one of the starting corners and at 5'8" didn't have ideal size. Ben Criddle came out of nowhere and played excellent. Nonetheless, an elite passing team would have given them problems.
