We re-did our kitchen in the fall and bought a fridge with that configuration and we really like it. Easier to access the stuff you use all the time. Easier to see what's in the back of the freezer. We specifically chose NOT to get the water/ice dispenser in the door. It tgakes up storage room and is so often the source of problems. There is an ice maker in the freezer.

BTW, our old fridge was a Kenmore (RIP) that we purchased in 1996. It is still running strong in the garage now.
