by going to the Austin statesman and basically saying that Independence sucks and we want in the BIGXII.
I'm 100% convinced that Holmoe and the BOT completely dropped the ball in 2011... I think they messed that up completely and worked tirelessly to hide that screw up. When Bronco came out to the Austin Statesmen that Independence isn't sustainable... I think Holmoe and the BOT were worried that word would get out about their blunder, that honestly will be the biggest mistake in BYU Athletics history, and that was the beginning of the end for Bronco at BYU. Anyhow... I think Bronco's quotes in the Austin Statesman sent Holmoe and the BOT into a shear panic and the messaged insistently changed to Independence is sustainable and we are happy about our path.
The thing is... Bronco is right. We have seen a decrease in everything but finances. We are mediocre at best, our game attendance is struggling a lot right now, worse than it's been in decades. Recruiting is down... I mean honestly we are getting the kids that would come to BYU regardless, right now. Even our TV viewer numbers are dipping...
Joining the AAC might not fix everything... it honestly might not fix a thing... we could be a damaged program right now and will need the right people to repair it.... which I don't think we'll ever get. I do think Conference play is far and away more exciting than Independence play.
