I think it's a fair question.
BYU seems to have stabilized as far as the schedule, to a degree. I'm sure it's a headache for the admin to be scheduling out all 12 games each year instead of having a bunch of them done by a conference. So from a scheduling perspective, BYU has shown that they will have the games.

Some folks say that joining a G5 will make the schedule easier, which will result in more wins. I guess so. But with the old schedules we also had people complaining about the schedule being too easy. I guess I just think that there will be people whining about the schedule being either too easy or too hard no matter what happens. So I'm apathetic to that discussion.

I don't get the arguments of having something to play for as far as a conference championship. I want to win every game. Having a conference championship or not on the line doesn't change things for me. Play every game to win.

The only place I see a hint of an argument is when people say that a conference championship is a better/easier avenue into a NY6 or better bowl game. OK. I guess I see that. And it's not like BYU is knocking on the playoffs or anything - I think they'll be as well positioned for the playoffs either way (other than the fact that if an independent schedule honestly is more difficult - that likely enhances their Floyd Christmas chance at the playoffs by a couple of percentage points.)

The idea of players wanting to play for conference honors seems silly to me. People really think BYU's recruiting will increase because players want to be 1st team all conference in the MWC or the AAC or whatever? I don't see that. Maybe a P5 conference. But not G5.

Anyway - I'm not saying there's no reason to join a G5 conference. I'm just saying that I see the arguments as being a push at best between independence and G5. I tend to argue against joining, but I won't be upset if they do. Mostly I just like to give a differing viewpoint.
