You honestly think McMurphy is putting his reputation on the line with bogus numbers?
Talk about a moronic take.

1). He is talking about the new deal the AAC just signed with ESPN, ~$7M per school.
a. That deal would further be renegotiated with UCONN leaving and a different school to be named joining. BYU would bring significantly more value than UCONN so in theory that total contract value would increase and more money per school.

2). His main point was what makes BYU more competitive and attractive to a potential P5 invite. In his mind (and mine, with many others), joining a conference makes BYU much more attractive. As he put it:

What is more attractive, a BYU team that wins 6, 7, 8 games a year and goes to whatever bowl game that nobody remembers? Or BYU who wins three conference titles, goes to 2 NY6 games, and upsets a P5 team in one of those games?

Certainly, there are assumptions that BYU would immediately be competitive for a Conference Championship in the AAC and could potentially run the table. But a conference gives BYU a chance at a NY6... independence doesn't have a guaranteed path and with our schedules, it just won't happen.

I want to start competing for something again. If the money is close to equal, join a conference.
