It's really not that hard to fathom. "The whole family is going on a vacation? Guess we can't afford to go so we're not going" "Well, we want everyone to come so we'll pay for you" or... "if you can afford the flights we'll cover the hotel"

That said, I'm with you on the whole student loan thing. What kind of parents pay their kid's student loans?
