I was athletic growing up but I’m in my 40s now and that washboard stomach has a load of laundry on it. I’ve felt like I’ve been living too much in the past so I signup for the St. George marathon this October and I’ve been figuring out the right combo of salt and electrolytes. I’ve never done a marathon before.
So this morning I woke up and was like “let’s see what this fat man can do” and I mapped a route that kept me in the shade most of the run and I started and just told myself you can’t stop and I did it. Can’t believe it.
So if you’re a fat man looking to prove something to yourself, go run up Provo canyon. Start at the gas station at the mouth of the canyon, take the trail up to Vivian park, then back down to the parking lot between Nuns park and Bridal Vail falls, then back up to Vivian park and then return all the way to your car at the mouth of the canyon. It’s mostly in the shade and no hills.
My 4h 10m time includes all stops and bathroom break, so I was averaging a little better than the 9m 40s per mile pace.
