Disney of course is more expensive and crowded than other amusement parks but it's also very unique from other parks. There's not a lot thrill rides and crazy roller coasters and a lot of the attractions have been around since the park opened in 1955. I've always liked that a lot of the rides will often tell a story and sometimes try to educate kids. Haven't been back there in years but my family always enjoy going there. Long lines, crowds and expensive foods can be annoying and inconvenient but that's par for the course when you're visiting the most popular theme park in the world. If you love Disney and their products then you'll love their parks and resorts but if you don't then to each his own.
I love National Parks and chilling at a beach in Hawaii as much as anyone but it's not something I'd want to do all the time for recreation. That would get really boring after a while for me. Sometimes I'm in the mood to wear myself at some theme park and other times I just want to chill at some place quiet. I don't see why it has to be one way or the other with family vacations.
