How does this work exactly?

Seems like Greenland has been moving more towards independence and the US "buying" Greenland seems like that would move in the opposite direction. I guess it would just be a territory like Puerto Rico at that point. All the Greenlanders would become US citizens?

Seems weird that this could happen today.

Make it a territory. Use it for its resources and strategic military location. Build some nice resort towns
