...I loves Zach's natural confidence and consummate belief in his abilities plus his analytical approach to the position (focus on technique, footwork, fundamentals, etc). I see ZW a little more composed with his passion and fieriness than Max was and don't imagine I'd ever see him melt down and cry after a loss. He leads by example and seems to be able to elevate the play and effort of those around him (unlike Heaps).

In Mangum's case I think he's a little unique and when he opened up about some of his struggles with mental health issues it shed some light on what derailed his growth and progression at BYU. He's never said this nor do I have any evidence to support it but it seems like after his very successful freshman year, he was sitting on top of the world, engaged to a gorgeous volleyball star and after she broke off the engagement I think it caused him to plummet emotionally/mentally. If you recall that fall was 2016 and Taysom was healthy and competing for his job and Tanner didn't have a good fall camp. He later said in an interview that Taysom was the right call for the #1 position and that he didn't prepare very well for competing for the job. I think maybe it was a little hint at the possibility that he was still struggling to put himself back together. I could certainly be wrong about that, just my thoughts. Later that season is when Tanner opened up about his MH struggles so to me it seems to fit.

ZW just seems to be an amalgam of the best of Hall and Beck and nothing like Heaps/Mangum. He's dealt with not getting the starting job right out of fall camp last year in a very mature way (even though I think he earned it), handled success and failure equally well and showed mental toughness by battling through an injury (shoulder).
