I’m one for balance. BYU football was born and built off of beating a few giants and winning a poor conference. It became a thing that could actually build upon itself.
These schedules, while having compelling individual games do not (In my opinion) actually build the program. Wins at Nebraska, MSU, Wisconsin, AZ were awesome but weren’t part of special seasons, because there aren’t any anymore.
This program needs more shots at special seasons to keep interest and to have some destination they are working towards. Right now, we are in Groundhog Day- we’ll win a few of the tough games, go to the Hawaii Bowl, and win somewhere between 6-9 games and then...what?
We need these big games, but we also need to schedule the occasional possibility of a double-digit season. The next several years are not built that way.
