is to punt and try and hold them.  And chances were that they were going to run the ball and run the ball and only pass in a 3rd and long and maybe not even then.  Play calling by TN was going to be very obvious making it more likely you are going to be able to stop them.  TN getting the ball back is not going to try and score.  They are only going for 1st downs and try to do that on run plays.  In my opinion it was the smart call.  You know what TN will be trying to do when they get the ball back, you have 2 time outs, and if you sell out on the run you can stop them.  On the other side, what play does BYU call, a short pass most likely.  TN sells out on a pass rush or drops 8 in all the angles and plays bump coverage with safeties over the top.  Not easy to complete those passes when it's obvious the QB is expected to get rid of the ball within two seconds.
