BYU football didn’t become nationally relevant in the first place by declaring themselves relevant, or by getting pounded by bigger, better programs. They did it by consistently winning games, even against programs that weren’t big time.
The program is currently in the dumps and people seem to want a quick fix. I get that and it would be great to get a P5 invite. But absent that, let’s get back to winning games, even if that means playing less prominent programs.
When the best thing we can say about the program is the quality of the programs we play (not the quality of the programs we beat), there’s a serious problem. And continuing with that plan is, IMO, a recipe for continued and prolonged national irrelevance.
