publish procedure and medical costs. Empower the consumers by publicizing costs for care. Create more competition with walk-in clinics.
Mandating that everyone purchase insurance drives up the costs for the middle and lower class. We've seen this for years. Remember Barack "If you like your insurance you can keep it." Yea, he meant to say "If you like your insurance you can keep it.....if you can afford it." Premiums have gone up for a majority of Americans. Not to mention how the original ACA heavily penalized those who couldn't afford their own insurance. Mandating it is a step in the WRONG direction.
We have a problem in America with the idea that medicine can fix all our health issues. Reality is that you, and only you, can take responsibility for your health and for the costs of that care. Insurance plays a role, no doubt. But healthcare gets much cheaper if the consumer can make informed decisions about the costs of care. Under a single-payer system you'll see patients demand care that won't improve their circumstance and costs will rise for you and me. Wait times will increase because everyone will clog the system with issues that be solved with over-the-counter remedies. The current solutions you've been hearing from the DNC debates are ludicrous at best.
