I'd also find a good therapist for two or three sessions where your son could have a totally independent party to speak with. Assuming you find someone great, it can be life-changing for your son.

You are his greatest advocate. Don't let the schools dictate what the terms are. Push for the change and support needed even if it means raising some hell.
