To where they periodically cannot work?

One of my sons has recurring bouts with deep anxiety. When he's ok, he is the best worker, with perfect customer skills and a great work ethic.

But anxiety in the last few years has grown worse and periodically knocks him over, sometimes brought on by stress, other times by I don't know what. And in the depths of it, he may not be able to work for 1-3 days.

Is he pretty much doomed to work at low level jobs, like a clerk in a hotel for gas station clerk, for the rest of his life?
