Baby was crumping, and anesthesia was in another procedure and couldn't get there. Doc said we can't wait, so he took a huge syringe of lidocaine and numbed the incision site and started cutting. My job as a resident was to be under the drape holding mom's legs down. Doc was lightning fast cutting through all the layers and getting the baby out. Mom screaming in agony the whole time. Anesthesia came in just as the baby came out, and put her to sleep.
To the doc's credit, he saved the baby. Mom, when she came to, couldn't thank the doc enough for saving the baby. I never want to see anything like that again, but the outcome was pretty sweet.
