At the end of the day, it really was 4th down and Boise used their final TO.
I can't make commentary on a play we all never received a clear view of. Yes, the second down run looked like an easy first down, but I've been fooled by bad views before. I wish they would have shown us a better view of that play, but the broadcast team was rather second rate last night.

With that explanation out of the way, I believe the refs eventually got the 4th down call correct. It was 4th down and Boise was forced to use a time out to stop the clock. I don't get all of the whining over that.

The play was called 4th down. Boise called a TO. During the TO a chain measurement was called for and showed a ball short of the 35 was a first down. The chain gang sucks at their jobs. Moving on. Boise, not knowing they needed to challenge, challenged. They can do that because play was already stopped by the TO. They had a TO when 3rd down ended. That's all that matters.

As for getting their TO back, I've seen that happen all the time. Not quite like that, but again, they had no idea there was anything to challenge when they called their TO. That said, I've seen plenty of teams change a TO into a challenge and then get the TO back with a successful challenge.

The end result was still the same. It was 4th down and Boise called time out. Why are we whining over that?
