There's not a lot of cerebral X's and O's that goes into run defense
Again, my view here - when Toledo and USF was gashing BYU for six to nine yard runs, it was the combined result of effort and discipline at that stage in the game. The reads that the front seven have in those situation isn't rocket science. They needed to rally around each other and make the stops through effort and discipline and Kalani's a big part of the emotional uplift that the defense needed in those critical moments. He was stoic; not engaging as much as you can see him during the second halves of last night's game and against USC earlier this year.

This defense - many of the same players from last year - mostly shut down Wisconsin's run game at Camp Randall and it was through an additional level of effort and discipline.

I just don't think it was merely requiring for Kalani or the defensive coaches to remind the players on their assignments and reads against Toledo and USF
