I think this is simply a numbers game
Many G5's schedule 2 P5 opponents and some schedule more on occasion. It's not smart to schedule 4 P5 games as a G5 school which is why schools don't do it.
BYU can schedule more games because they have 12 spots available instead of 3-4.

Look at all of our games that are broadcast nationally. Compare that to schools in conf where those schools are limited
