If athletes are paid then the NCAA becomes a development league for the NFL/NBA
This will further concentrate elite talent at the elite programs and make it harder for most of the other programs to compete.

I predict the creation of a semi-pro league built up of the Ohio States, Alabamas, and Clemsons of the world. The gap between those programs and everyone else will grow. I see "lower tier" teams deciding just not to compete altogether. For them, college athletics will more closely resemble what club teams are at BYU now (and what athletics were originally at the collegiate level).

Honestly, I wouldn't care if BYU was one of the best of the amateur teams in the country and didn't bother trying to keep up with the rest of them.
