The shower head has nothing to do with whether it is leaking or not. It's just
the outlet for the water. The valve(s) that turns the water on and off are behind the wall of the shower. It usually is just a simple rubber washer (a 25 cent part) that has been compressed too many times and has lost its elasticity.

It's not a difficult repair, assuming that you have adequate access behind your knob(s).
