When fall 2016 came he was under TFD’s tutelage and Taysom won back the starting job. Mangum later acknowledged he was not well prepared that fall to compete for the starting job and that Taysom was the right choice. I think he was hinting at the struggles he was facing. I think it was later that season that he opened up about his struggles with MH issues in his life. He’s a brave guy.

The Mangum of 2015 never resurfaced in 2017 or 2018 and he likely was given the starting job in 2018 due to being a senior rather than earning it as the clearly better QB over Wilson (imo). Eventually coaches saw the Mangum of 2015 was gone for good and went with the guy who should’ve been starting probably from game 1.
