Instead of trusting blindly in whatever broadcasting deal UMass might put together, BYU should have added a clause to the contract with a stipulation that BYUtv could broadcast the game if UMass failed to get a national TV broadcast option available.

Contracts and business deals often have a bit of give and take. UMass could have chosen not to accept BYU's terms but I think BYU was doing them a favor with the HHAA deal. It's okay for BYU to ask for or even insist at times on some benefits or protections for them as well.

Hopefully BYU was smarter with deals with teams like Georgia Southern or Rice or Liberty but I doubt it.

BYU shouldn't be playing road games in high school stadiums being broadcast from cell phones and available to next to no one or at an extreme surcharge. That's not the exposure we are looking for with independence.
