There certainly were times where RUTS seemed like it happened
But it is a lot more about how it is handled. And the social media posts from the official Utah accounts today are not the way to handle it. There absolutely have been times for many teams where it seems that way. But how the coaches, players and institution (and somewhat the fans) handle it is what matters.

Things like onside kicking when up 40+ is not a way to look good in the situation.
Coach yelling very animated at officials when up huge is also not a good look.

Not hiding anything. Here is an article from a couple years ago about the largest margin of victories in BYU Football history. I believe the Wagner game recently would be on this list but that isn't in the 70's/80's like you mentioned.

These are the ones from the 80's for you to review. 2 of those 4 had a single QB throw for more than 300 yards. But in all honesty the average for those guys was way down in these victories. And several times the late scoring was defensive and/or mistakes by the other team (intentional grounding in their own end zone).

I'm sure there were ways to possibly not run it up even more that could have been employed. But you can see from those limited stats that they made an attempt. And I bet LaVelle was not yelling like a mad man at the officials or kicking on side kicks either.

It is going to happen in mismatched games but salt in the wound posts like Utah Athletics made to boast or some of the other type of coaching antics paint a bad picture that people are noticing.

People didn't malign LaVelle or Bronco for being callous after a big win or a loss. Most respected their demeanor and sportsmanship. Even if fans had problems with Bronco for some of his quirks I do not think coaches were bothered by the way he conducted himself or examples he used to try to lead his team.
