I had a kind of similar situation as you a couple years ago. I didn't end up going, but now regret it. I just think, now, that it really wouldn't have been that big an issue for me to have gone back then, and I wish I had. You'll never regret being "too" thoughtful or kind.

I have wept in the night
For the shortness of sight
That to somebody’s need made me blind;
But I never have yet
Felt a tinge of regret
For being a little too kind.
