NOTHING would do more longterm damage to the football program than this lame-brained idea.
Do you have ANY idea how awful this would look? And I'm not just talking about the public. I'm talking about recruits, and especially future coaches.
"Hey, come coach at BYU! It's a great job! It doesn't pay a ton, and you'll have to deal with the honor code- but it's worth it. Just be sure not to lose any games, because even if we just extended your contract, days ago- we won't hesitate to fire you."

And what parents are going to send their kids to play for a program with THAT kind of disorganized instability?
