They’ve been to 4 straight playoffs and have won twice. They have a proven track record that will go a long way on any discussion.
The purpose of the committee is to choose the “4 best teams”, not the “4 best conference champs”, or “4 teams with the best records”. They have ample leeway to choose Clemson before they even begin to evaluate other teams.
Good wins, bad losses and conference championships are used to break ties between teams that they view as very similar, but as the primary decision criteria.
Ohio State, LSU and Clemson are in. The last spot will go to a one loss Georgia. If Georgia loses to LSU, then Utah and the winner of Oklahoma/Baylor will go into the tie-breaker where good wins and bad losses will be compared. Utah is going to e hard-pressed to beat out Oklahoma, but stands a puncher’s chance against Baylor.
Utah, Oklahoma/Baylor, and a
